Juanito Makandé, born Juan Medina Herranz on February 20, 1982, in La Línea de la Concepción, Cádiz, is a prominent Spanish musician recognized for his multifaceted talents as a singer, percussionist, guitarist, composer, and producer. He is particularly noted for his innovative fusion of traditional flamenco with funk and jazz influences. His passion for music was ignited during car rides with his father, which led him to learn the guitar and cajón. After forming the duo Radio Makandé, he launched his solo career in 2006 with the album Sueña. His second album, Momentos de alimento (2011), featured nearly 40 musicians and marked a significant milestone in his career, while his 2014 release, Las canciones que escriba mientras volaba, garnered him national recognition. In 2015, he produced the album Death to the Black Birds through crowdfunding, a strategy he continued with his 2018 project, The Inhabitant of the Red Afternoon. Additionally, he co-hosted the television show Vivan los bares with his ex-wife, Lorena Castell. Juanito's artistic development illustrates his dedication to a diverse range of musical expressions and themes.
