Faraji Omar Wright, professionally known as Rexx Life Raj, is an American rapper and singer from Berkeley, California. He grew up in a family deeply rooted in music—his mother was part of a gospel ensemble, and his father was involved with the Black Panther Party. Raj began his musical endeavors in middle school and later played football at Boise State University before returning to California to focus on his music career. Influenced by neo-soul and notable artists like Lauryn Hill and Kid Cudi, he debuted with his EP, Hidden Clouds, in 2014, and subsequently released several albums, including the Father Figure trilogy. His introspective and confessional lyrical style, combined with smooth melodies, has received widespread acclaim. In 2022, he unveiled his fifth album, The Blue Hour, featuring collaborations with artists such as Wale and Fireboy DML. Raj’s music often draws from his personal experiences, including the loss of childhood friends, making him a significant voice in contemporary hip-hop.
