Beşiktaş Sompo Japan is the professional men's basketball team from Istanbul. It was formed back in 1933 when Beşiktaş J.K., a sports club which owned one of the most prestigious Football teams in Turkey, wanted to venture into the world of basketball. Over the years the team has managed to garner the attention of international media through its excellent performances in the Turkish Basketball Super League and in the Champions League.
