ALASKALASKA is an experimental pop band that fills its songs with sparse beats, laconic sax solos and warbled guitar arrangements in addition to clever vocals curtsey of lead singer Lucina Duarte-Holmes. Though this hodgepodge of sounds might sound off putting in the wrong hands of an incapable band, ALASKALASKA somehow manages to make it work and the group's debut album, 2019's The Dots, is a perfect reflection of a band willing to blend traditional avant-garde sensibilities with a knack for pop song accessibility.
