The Bad Seed is a play written by American playwright Maxwell Anderson that's adapted from the novel of the same name by William March. Telling the story of a seemingly perfect looking girl who has sinister streaks and her mother who starts to think that her daughter is responsible for hideous crimes, The Bad Seed has been praised for its innovative look at the underbelly of American superficiality. The play premiered on Broadway in 1954 and since then it has received numerous revivals around the world, in addition to a Academy Award-nominated film in 1956.
