A Chorus of Disapproval is a play written by Alan Ayckbourn that premiered in 1984 at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough, England. The plot revolves around a young widower who joins an amateur opera group and quickly manages to become the troupe's lead while securing liaisons with a number of the female cast members. Since grown into a favorite for UK audiences, A Chorus of Disapproval furthered its cultural iconography after it was made into a critically lauded 1989 film starring Jeremy Irons and Anthony Hopkins.
