King Arthur is a semi-opera that follows Arthur's journey to rescue his fiancée Princess Emmeline from the Saxon King Oswald of Kent. Forgoing the beloved legends of Camelot, the story takes place during the battles between the Saxons and King Arthur's Britons. King Arthur debuted at the Queen's Theatre, Dorset Garden in London in 1691 and has endured as a classic English-language opera.
