This piece by the Irish intellectual behemoth Colm Tóibín narrates the Testament of Mary, a story which highlights the aging mother of Jesus and her struggle with the belief that her son was the Savior. It is told through the eyes of Mary in which she appears more human as opposed to the more common hagiographic descriptions of her. The story garnered three Tony nominations in 2013 and it was on the shortlist to win the Man Booker Prize the same year.
