The acclaimed Indian composer duo Salim–Sulaiman, consisting of siblings Salim and Sulaiman Merchant, was born in Mumbai, with Salim arriving on March 3, 1974, and Sulaiman on December 21, 1970. Coming from a musical family in Kutch, Gujarat, they were influenced by their father, Sadruddin Merchant, and developed their talents at prestigious institutions and under the tutelage of renowned mentors. Their career took off with their score for the film Bhoot, leading to a prolific output that includes music for significant Hindi films such as Chak De! India and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. They have also worked with international artists, creating notable anthems like "Africa – You're A Star" for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Salim's role as a judge on Indian Idol has further elevated their public profile. The duo has received multiple awards, including the Filmfare Award for Best Background Score for Krrish. Their diverse body of work spans over twenty years, encompassing film, Indi-pop, and television, establishing them as key figures in the Indian music industry.
