Founded in 1904, Bayer 04 Leverkusen is a professional football club based in Leverkusen, North Rhine-Westphalia. Commonly known as Bayer Leverkusen, the team competes in the Bundesliga, the top tier of the German football league system and plays its home games at BayArena. While the club has never won the Bundesliga, it holds the record for the most number of second place finishes. It has also been the runner up of the 2001–02 UEFA Champions League and has one UEFA Cup gold to its credit.
