Inspired by the childhood of George Takei, who is known for his part as Mr. Sulu in Startrek, Allegiance is a drama about patriotism and loyalty. It is set during the American-Japanese internment during World War II. Sammy and Kei, the main characters, are siblings who chose different paths to save their family from the imprisonment of Japanese Americans in the war. 50 years later, Sam, now a war hero, is given a letter which reminds him of the hardship that his family endured during that time. Featuring one of the first Asian-led casts on Broadway, Allegiance tells a story often left ignored by Western audiences.
