Cúcuta Deportivo is one of the Columbian teams that compete in the Categoria Primera A, which is the country’s top-tier football competition. The club was founded in the city of San José de Cúcuta in 1924 as Cúcuta Sports Club, but the team started playing in professional matches from 1950. The history of this team is illustrated with achievements such as winning the Categoría Primera A and Categoría Primera B titles multiple times. The team has even proved its mettle in front of international audiences during the 2007 Copa Libertadores where it managed to remain undefeated till the semi-finals. The IFFHS, which is known for maintaining records of association football games, has listed it amongst the best South American clubs of the 21st century.
