One of the most successful football clubs in Colombia, América de Cali's popularity stretches far beyond the boundaries of the country. The club was founded in 1927 and since then it has built an appetite for victory. It spent its early years in the amateur leagues, where it swiftly grew into one of the strongest teams. Winners of several major titles, including the Categoría Primera A and Copa Merconorte, the club always seeks to expand its trophy collection. América de Cali's best run of form came in the 1980s, when it won the league five times in a row. While that feat is yet to be repeated, the club still stands amongst the giants of the league.
