Led by singer/songwriter Mark Stuart, Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash is an alternative country band with a fiery Americana aesthetic. The four-piece outfit rose out of San Diego in 1995, and after receiving permission from Johnny Cash himself to use his name in its moniker, the band was invited to Cash's personal home studio in Hendersonville,Tennessee to record a debut album. The resulting record, 1998's Lasso Motel, earned the respect of the national country music community and solidified Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash as a preeminent force of alternative country sounds.
