Not only is Flamengo one of the most successful football clubs in Brazil, it is also one of the most popular in the world. Established in 1895, its illustrious history is peppered with several iconic moments. Conquerors of Brazil and South America, its trophy cabinet contains almost everything there is to win, from the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A and Copa do Brasil, to the Copa Libertadores, Recopa Sudamericana and Intercontinental Cup. It is also one of three teams that have never been relegated from the top flight of Brazilian football. Over the years, the club has fielded several legendary players including Zico, Júlio César and Léo Júnio. Flamengo also shares a heated rivalry with Fluminense, which is globally known as the Fla–Flu derby and is said to be one of the most intense in the world of football.
