Lubomyr Melnyk is a Ukrainian composer and pianist who is best known for pioneering a genre called "continuous music." Developing a style of piano playing, centered around fast paced notes to create a tapestry of sound with the aid of sustain effects, Melnyk creates strong overtones and symphonic resonance that blend or react to harmonic changes. Releasing his debut album, Piano Music in the Continuous Mode, in 1979, Melnyk has since managed to maintain a prolific recording schedule in addition to performing frequently and giving lectures and speeches at a number of art galleries and music schools around the world.
