A seminal figure of the queercore genre, Jon Ginoli is a guitarist and vocalist who rose to recognition as a member of Pansy Division, a punk rock band he founded in 1991 along with Chris Freeman. One of the first punk outfits to feature openly gay musicians, the San Francisco-based group combined themes of LGBT life with classic punk ethics and caught the mainstream wave of pop punk along with bands like Green Day. As he continues to release new material with his long-time group, Ginoli also writes and performs his own solo material.
