Equally known for being the former front man of British indie rock band Maximo Park and for his rather bizarre, awkward dance moves on stage, Paul Smith later branched off on his own to release a solo album, specifically a break-up album. Ditching the shimmery guitars Maximo Park is known for, Smith instead opted for sparse instrumentals and voyeuristic (bordering on creepy) lyrics that failed to impress most critics, who dubbed his solo work as drab and far too personal, NME even going as far as saying "a good post-break-up shag might have restored his vim better than this [post-break-up album]." However, the late Smith was still appreciated as an honest musician with a charming voice.
