About
The Golden Key, or The Adventures of Buratino is the Soviet variant of the story of Pinocchio. It was written in 1936 by famed writer Aleksey Tolstoy, son of a remote relative of Leo Tolstoy. When Tolstoy wanted to tell the Pinocchio story to his children, he understood that he had forgotten a lot of the details and filled in the blanks with his own imaginings. The children loved the tale so much that the writer decided to publish it. Since then it has been one of the most beloved Russian children's stories. The plot differs from Pinocchio in several key aspects--for example, the wooden boy Buratino's nose doesn't get longer when he lies, and he doesn't become a real boy in the end.
