About
L'Africaine is a libretto opera that was the last work of famed German composer Giacomo Meyerbeer before his death in 1864. Telling a fictitious story involving Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama, the near constant narrative evolution manages to engage audiences with impressive set pieces that find characters in Portugal, at sea and in an exotic new land. Premiered by the Paris Opera at the Salle Le Peletier in 1985, L'Africane has managed to maintain a timeless sensibility with numerous revival shows around the world.
