BUMP OF CHICKEN is a Japanese rock band formed in 1994 featuring Motoo Fujiwara as lead singer and guitarist, Hiroaki Masukawa on guitar, Yoshifumi Naoi on bass and Hideo Masu on drums.The name BUMP OF CHICKEN represents a complex idea in which "bump" means to hit or to strike in an act of revenge of the weak, in this case, represented by "chicken." So that is to say, BUMP OF CHICKEN is an act of retaliation. They gained fame after their second single "Tentai-Kansoku," meaning "astronomical observation", which was released in 2001. Over time, BUMP OF CHICKEN became one of the most popular bands in Japan.
