Diego Matheuz

Diego Matheuz is a violinist and conductor from Venezuela who studied under various prominent symphonic music leaders before making his debut as a conductor in 2008. After having studied violin for the majority of his life, he started honing his skills as a conductor in the mid 2000s under the supervision of fellow Venezuelan José Antonio Abreu and went on to apprentice with the Italian conductor Claudio Abbado. Matheuz make his national debut in 2008 with the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra, followed months later by his international debut in Itlay, which was met with critical acclaim. The performance led him to several guest conductor spots within the year, including stints at L'Accademia nazionale di Santa Cecilia and Teatro Lirico di Cagliari. In 2011, he was appointed the position of Chief Musical Director of the Gran Teatro la Fenice in Venice.
