Chambao, formed in 2001 in Málaga, Spain, is renowned for their distinctive blend of flamenco and electronic music, often referred to as Flamenco Chill. The original lineup included María del Mar Rodríguez Carnero (La Mari), Eduardo Casañ (El Edi), and Daniel Casañ (Dani). They gained widespread attention with their contribution to the Flamenco Chill compilation in 2002, followed by their debut album Endorfinas en la Mente (2003). Over the years, the group underwent changes, with La Mari remaining as the sole member after the departure of Edi and Dani. Chambao's sound evolved, influenced by African and Mexican rhythms, evident in albums like Con Otro Aire (2007) and Chambao (2012). After a brief hiatus, they returned in 2023 with En la Cresta del Ahora. La Mari’s journey, including a battle with breast cancer, has been a testament to her resilience and creativity, maintaining Chambao’s legacy in the global music scene.
