Death is a proto punk band from Michigan that was initially formed in 1971 when Motown and disco were dominating the mainstream airwaves. Composed of brothers Bobby, David and Dannis Hackney, the group cultivated a hard garage rock sound that would, despite never emerging from the underground, go on to inspire the original wave of punk rock during the mid-1970s. Though the band split up in 1977 having earned no recognition, Death reformed in 2009 when the Chicago-based independent label Drag City discovered the group's demos and decided to distribute them for the first time, resulting in the band's debut album. ...For the Whole World to See. Embraced in the diverse landscape of modern music, the record captured the attention of a world-wide audience, earning long-overdue recognition for some of the most influential forefathers of punk.
