Hailing from a small town of India, Astad Deboo's illustrious career and recognition as the father of modern dance in India is truly worthy an honor. His love for dance started when he was learning Kathak in his childhood. It was only when he witnessed a live performance by an American troupe in a Mumbai venue, that Astad Deboo was inspired to learn contemporary dance. He acquired an intensive training at famous international dance academies: New York's Martha Graham Center of Contemporary Dance, London School of Contemporary Dance and Wuppertal Dance Academy in Germany. He also dabbled in Kathakali, the South Indian dance form; later to combine the style of Indian classical dance forms with contemporary technique. His achievements include his artistic ventures with the likes of Pink Floyd, and the eminent ballet dancer, Maya Plissetskaya. But what is indeed inspiring is the fact that Astad has been presenting a global audience flawless choreographed acts with hearing-impaired performers!
