The Odyssey is one of two ancient Greek epic poems, the other being the Iliad, attributed to the author Homer, that is considered to be the oldest work of Western literature. Telling the story of Odysseus and his voyage home after the Trojan war, the Odyssey is credited for creating the story structure for many modern movies and plays. Encountering various pitfalls and traps, including run-ins with sirens and a cyclops, Odysseus is guided by his intelligence and his love of of a life he knew before leaving for battle.
