Dr. Ananda Shankar Jayant embraced art in the form of dance at a tender age. At the age of 11, she joined the renowned institute of Kalakshetra in Chennai, where she dabbled in Bharatnatyam dance and choreography, veena, Carnatic music and philosophy, followed by Kuchipudi in Hyderabad. She honed artistic skills to be recognized today as an exponent exuding immense grace and radiance through her dance. Be it her traditional ballet, Thyagaraja Ramayanam, or contemporary dancework of Richard Bach's Jonathan Livingston Seagull and gender-based piece, What About Me, Ananda manages to break the barrier between traditional and contemporary to increase the fervor for art in the present world. Performing her duty as a government officer, training students at her dance school, Shankarananda Kalakshetra, performing at national and international cultural festivals, giving art lectures and actively participating in the workings of Andhra Pradesh Sangeeta Natak Akademi: all these include few of the diverse roles that Ananda plays successfully.
