Cryptopsy is a technical death metal band from Canada that has a proven track record of adept melodramatic production aesthetic as well as uncharacteristically virtuostic musicianship. Founded in 1988, the band played for four years under the name Necrosis before opting to change its name to Cryptopsy in 1992. Distinguishing itself from the myriad of other Canadian death metal bands by loading its songs with starkly defined sections that showcase the member's instrumental prowess as well as a flair for theatrics (one stunt involving ingesting live worms on stage), Cryptopsy has become a favorite of serious metal fans and connoisseurs of progressive hard rock.
