Though once known as Beyoncé's kid sister, Solange has emerged out of her sister's shadow as a singer/songwriter, actress and model. Despite rumors that she would become the fourth member of Destiny's Child in the early 2000s, she released her debut solo record, Solo Star, in 2003 with a contemporary pop and R&B style. Departing from pop music and inspired by the 1960s and 1970s, she released her 2008 album Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams, with a modern, blues and jazz-tinged R&B sound.
