Legend has it that the Brighton, England 5-piece the Maccabees chose its name by flipping through the Bible and pointing a finger to a random word, that evidently turned out to be Maccabees. The group is an indie rock band that draws tremendously from post-punk and Britpop, thus creating a characteristically British sound that has garnered the group a quickly growing fan base in its home country. The group released its debut album, Colour It In, in 2007 and has since released additional well-recieved LPs.
