San Francisco duo Om was formed in 2003 by the rhythm section of the stoner metal band Sleep. Basing its song structure on Tibetan chanting and full of haunting Middle Eastern stringed instruments, the band retains the epic length and quality musicianship of Sleep, but creates a more world-influenced type of music than its former project.
