Erdal Erzincan

Erdal Erzincan is an Alevi folk musician, composer, and vocalist. He relocated to Istanbul in 1981, where he pursued studies in bağlama at the Arif Sağ music school, later continuing his education at Istanbul Technical University from 1989 onwards. Renowned for his innovative approach, Erzincan created the şelpe technique for playing the bağlama, which introduces a distinctive tapping style akin to that of the guitar. Over the course of his career, he has collaborated with esteemed Turkish folk musicians and produced a notable album alongside Iranian-Kurdish artist Kayhan Kalhor in 2004. Erzincan is married to Mercan Erzincan and is the father of one child. His rich discography features albums such as Gurup Arayış, Türküler Sevdamız, and Döngü, reflecting his expertise in traditional Turkish music. He remains an influential figure in the folk music scene, skillfully merging traditional melodies with modern influences, thereby securing his position within Turkey's musical heritage.
