The Smith Street Band is a four-piece outfit that emerged out of Melbourne, Australia, in 2010 with a folk punk sound. Combining abrasive elements of pub rock and punk with modern folk, the band released its debut album, South East Facing Wall, in 2011 as Will Wagner and The Smith Street Band. By the time it release its third studio LP, Sunshine and Technology, in 2012, the group shortened its name to mark a shift in songwriting style from being centered on lead vocalist and founder Will Wagner to a full-band effort.
