Karnivool is a progressive rock band that was formed in Perth, Australia, in 1997. While the band initially emerged with the alternative, nu metal-inspired sound found on its first few records, including its 2005 debut album, Themata, it shifted toward a more progressive rock style for its sophomore LP, Sound Awake, in 2009. With founders Ian Kenny and Andrew Goddard still at the helm, Karnivool has managed to progress beyond the alternative rock scene of the 1990s with a modern rock sound.
