Eric Bogle

Born and raised in Peebles, Scotland, Eric Bogle first showed interest in writing when he was just eight years old. A self-taught guitarist, he performed as a part of the band Eric and the Informers and worked odd jobs before relocating to Australia. Over the years, he has made a name for himself as an acclaimed folk singer and songwriter. His songs have been especially appreciated for covering a variety of topics such as leaving one's family, the loss of a loved one and the futility of war. In 1987, he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for his service in the field of music. One of his best-known songs, "And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda," was included in the APRA's list of Top 30 Australian songs in 2001.
