Circus Maximus is a progressive metal band from Oslo, Norway that was founded in 2000. Initially starting as a cover band that would pay homage to bands like Dream Theater and Symphony X, the group eventually started writing its own original material and released its debut album, The 1st Chapter, in 2005. The group has since continued to release additional LPs as well as keep an ardent touring regime, helping distinguish it as one of the more capable Scandinavian progressive metal bands of its generation.
