All diamonds start off as carbon and after intense treatment become the sparkling stone that millions revere. Same can be said about Anandan Sivamani. Like any other artist, Sivamani started young at 7 years of age under the guidance of his father, a famous drummer in the South Indian music industry. His first stage performance was at 12 which initiated his musical career. He grew up as a talented percussionist, often performing with the likes of Hindustani and Carnatic geniuses like Zakir Hussain and T. V Gopalakrishnan. His transformation into ‘one of India’s best drummers’ and his musical act with his inspirations Billy Cobham and Noel Grant are the major highlights of his career. Watching Sivamani live as he creates music out of unique objects, is truly magical.
