Departing from his metal band Mastodon and his surfabilly outfit Fiend Without a Face, guitarist and vocalist Brent Hinds lightens things up for his new project, West End Motel. After an impromptu jam session in the early 1990s, Hinds and his longtime friend Tom Cheshire began making country and blues-inspired acoustic guitar music, never taking themselves too seriously and making sure they injected a good amount of cheesy charm. Along with a few other friends who describe themselves as a conglomerate of losers, poets and hobo-sexuals, Hinds and Chesire formed West End Motel and released a split album titled Brent Hind Presents: Fiend Without a Face & West End Motel in 2011. The band released its first full-length album Only Time Can Tell, in 2012, fully realizing for the first time the projects breezy, feel-good music with funky melodies, shouting vocals and rich textures.
