Pop punk trio The Thermals were formed in Portland in 2002 by members of the folk duo Hutch & Kathy. With its politically charged songs subdued slightly by catchy pop hooks, the band built a following and signed to the Sub Pop label. Often teaming up with Chris Walla, of Death Cab for Cutie fame, who does the production on many of the band's albums, and recently signing to the celebrated Kill Rock Stars label, The Thermals have become quite the indie darlings.
