Katatonia

The Stockholm based five-piece Katonia was formed in 1991 and is considered one of the forerunners of the death metal genre. After lead singer Jonas Renkses was no longer able to perform his characteristic growling vocals, however, the band switched to a slightly softer sound, incorporating more hard rock elements and shortening the length of its songs. Though perhaps altering its fan base with this shift, Katatonia nonetheless performs sold out shows worldwide.
