Four punk rockers came together in 2011 to slow down their sound and form Tough Guys of America, a lo-fi pop/rock outfit. Inspired by the cultural trends of the last fifty years, from the classic rock of the 1960s and the carefree attitude of the 1970s, to the pop music of the 1980s and teen movies from the 1990s, the band is a true sum of the past filtered through a fresh, stripped-down lens. Tough Guys of America creates a universally appealing brand of lo-fi music, captured on its 2012 eponymous EP, without falling into the trappings of the muddy garage rock sound so often adopted by acts trying to capture a retro sound.
