Grant Green Jr. is a jazz guitarist from St. Louis, Missouri, who is perhaps best known as one-third of the ensemble Masters of Groove. The son of legendary jazz guitarist Grant Green, he first picked up a guitar at age 14 and was immediately exposed to various jazz musicians who would visit his home, particularly after he and his family relocated to New York. Green moved to Detroit with his father, and was again surrounded by musical greats such as Marvin Gaye and other Motown artists, who went on to influence his style of playing. He released his debut solo album Jungle Strut, in 1997, establishing his modern jazz fusion sound before joining Bernard Purdie and Reuben Wilson to form Masters of Groove. He has since continued to release several albums with the trio as well as on his own.
