At the Gates is a metal band from Gothenburg, Sweden that was a major innovator of the melodic death metal sound. Founded in 1990, the group released its debut album, The Red in the Sky is Ours, in 1992 to widespread acclaim. Though the group has taken a few hiatuses over its decades long career, it has nevertheless managed to maintain its characteristic aggressiveness that brought it to notoriety.
