The daunting scope that Welcome to Thebes creates for itself is enough to make any theater connoisseur giddy with excitement. The plot line centers around an emerging third world African country trying to find its footing after the fallout from World War II. Various diplomats and civic leaders are main characters and while there is a large slightly stuffy political ensemble, flamboyancy is interjected into the play courtesy of a few spiritual characters that help steer the African country's course as it grows.
