Marcelo Maldonado Peixoto, who performs and releases music under the guise Marcelo D2, is a Brazilian rapper who initially got his start as vocalist for the popular rap rock band Planet Hemp in 1993. After a period of time with the group, Peixoto launched his solo career in 1998 with his debut LP, Eu Tiro E Onda. Oftentimes incorporating elements of samba into his hip-hop sound, Peixoto has proven himself a musician who is unafraid to blend what might appear as diametrically opposed musical styles.
