Jerry Gonzalez was an american trumpeter and percussionist of Puerto Rican descent who played an important role in the development of Latin jazz during the late-20th Century. Growing up in New York City, Gonzalez would go on to serve as a backing musician with Eddie Palmieri and Manny Oquendo before striking out on his own. Gonzalez released his debut solo album, Ya Yo Me Cure, in 1979, and remained active by releasing LPs with regularity and keeping an respectable touring schedule throughout his career. He succumbed to a fatal heart attack in 2018.
