Francisco Mela’s new group, Cuban Safari, comes off the heels of the successful release of his second CD as a leader titled Cirio, recorded on Half Note Records and live at the Blue Note Jazz Club. Mela is a favorite among jazz’s elite instrumentalists (Joe Lovano, John Scofield, JoAnne Brackeen, and Kenny Barron), all of whom cite his charisma, sophistication, and life-affirming spirit.
