Inspired by Balkan folk and Eastern European gypsy tales, Zach Condon, founder and primary songwriter for the Santa Fe, New Mexico-based band Beirut, has been crafting his own characteristic style of indie folk since 2006 when he released Beruit's debut album, Gulag Orkestar. By blending elements of the American mainstream and subtle experimentation with aforementioned European influences, Condon and his bandmates create memorable tunes that have managed to win over throngs of fans and critics alike.
