What started off a solo project is now the six-piece folk ensemble Boat to Row, a Birmingham-based band made up of friends who share instruments and a passion for intricate folk music. Boat to Row combines commanding harmonies, usually anchored by lead vocalist Michael King, with jangly instrumentation to create a multi-layer sound that is authentic but playful at the same time.
