Because a good deal of music that's created by Scandinavian countries falls into the pop and metal category, it's often surprising to stumble upon a unique "rock" band that's worth more than just a passing listen. John Olav Nilsen & Gjengen fall into this category and subsequently the band caught the attention of several eager listeners and music critics in 2010. The band's unique form of singer/songwriter Norwegian rock is wholly unique to the group and even though the band often plays acoustically, it still manages to sound extremely dutiful and worthy of all of the praise that it has received.
